Marvel Accused Of ‘Whitewashing’ After Casting Robert Downey Jr. As Doctor Doom

On July 28, the San Diego Comic-Con was the scene of a rather shocking revelation. Somebody dressed as a supervillain was unmasked on the stage, and it was Robert Downey Junior.

When Robert Downey Junior showed up at the Comic-Con in San Diego, the audience was shocked to see him standing in front of them. After removing his mask, he said: “New mask, same task. What’d I tell you, I like playing complicated characters.”

Anthony and Joe Russo, the filmmakers, will be directing a pair of Dr. Doom movies. They include, Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars. We are looking forward to what they can do, as they have been behind some of the biggest films from that genre, including Avengers: Endgame.

Joe spoke to the crowd at the Comic-Con, saying: “When we directed Avengers: Endgame, we really believed it was the end for us in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

“That four-movie run was incredible, and it left us creatively spent.”

He went on to say that after finding a very special story, they were convinced to return.

Some fans were very happy about the announcement but others were not happy that Robert Downey Junior was cast for the role. He is returning to the MCU after starting out in 2008 as Ironman. He played that part until the character died in Avengers: Endgame.

Robert Downey Jr plays the part of Tony Stark, who is better known as Ironman. The Megarich genius with an interesting personality was what the MCU fans have become accustomed to. They are wondering how he will play the part of a complex militant, such as Dr. Doom.

Many fans took to social media to discuss their feelings on the subject, saying that they were digging a hole and that people may have a hard time not thinking about Ironman when they see Downey Junior in that part.

There are others who are saying that Dr. Doom was not a white man, and they are calling it ‘straight-up whitewashing.’

The full cast for Avengers: Doomsday has since been released. The movie is set to be released on May 1, 2026 as part of the six phase project.

Returning stars include Chris Hemsworth (Thor), Anthony Mackie (Falcon), Paul Rudd (Ant-Man), and Tom Hiddleston (Loki). Newcomers include Simu Liu (Shang-Chi), Letitia Wright (Shuri), Winston Duke (M’Baku), and Patrick Stewart (Professor X).

Additionally, the Fantastic Four cast, led by Pedro Pascal (Mr. Fantastic), will join the Avengers lineup.
